About Patrilie

Patrilie Hernandez (they/she) has 15 years of experience working in the health and nutrition sector as an educator, advocate, and policy , which has deeply impacted their understanding of how the pursuit of "health" seamlessly intersects with the built environment, equity, and social justice. It wasn’t until they were diagnosed with an eating disorder in December 2017 that they realized how much of their own disordered behaviors and thoughts around food, health, and bodies infiltrated all aspects of their personal life and career. Since then, Patrilie has broadened from their focus on food & nutrition to include other structural determinants that influence community health and wellbeing.

In 2018, Patrilie founded Embody Lib, a community platform and consulting practice that provides a range of services to organizations and institutions. Embody Lib specializes in the transformation of cultures, policies, practices, and programs that unintentionally harm the mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing of people with systemically marginalized identities. Drawing on the their lived experience as a higher-weight, multiracial, neuroatypical, queer femme of the Puerto Rican diaspora, Patrilie challenges the status quo in the nonprofit and public sectors.

With an academic background in culinary arts, social science, nonprofit management, public health, and nutrition, Patrilie aims to help organizations and the communities they serve build a strong foundation for liberation, justice, and equity.

In their spare time, Patrilie enjoys cooking for others, tending to their garden and house plants, and gazing at the moon. They cherish spending time with their spouse and dog at their home in the District of Columbia.
